Several years ago, my wife of almost 47 years passed away at Mayo Clinic St. Mary's in
Rochester, Minn. Not only was I deeply depressed, but I had guilty feelings for asking the
doctors to bring her back a second time with the paddles. I later learned that her heart was so bad
that it couldn't have worked. It made me feel as though I had put her through unnecessary pain.
I had heard about a program for widows, widowers and divorced persons called Beginning
Experience (BE). It's staffed by persons who have experienced painful losses. They, together
with the other participants, brought me both comfort and healing.
